Carbon fibre composites have good application prospects in automotive field

In order to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, automobile lightweight has become a trend in recent years. Carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRP) have the characteristics of light weight, high tensile modulus and high tensile strength. It is reported that the demand for carbon fiber reinforced composites in the automotive industry is growing rapidly. Many automotive manufacturers have cooperated with carbon fiber manufacturers to develop usable automotive components. For example, Yingchuang has worked with Johnson Automation, Jacob Plastic and Toho Tenax to develop carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) lightweight materials; Tori and Daimler have reached a joint research and development agreement to develop CFRP components for Mercedes-Benz.

It is expected that the market capacity of carbon fiber reinforced composites will further expand in the future with the growth of demand in the automotive field. According to data released recently by American consulting firm Frost Sullivan, the average annual growth rate of carbon fiber composite materials will reach 31.5% in 2010-2017. By 2017, the global automotive carbon fiber composite market is expected to grow to 7885 tons, and its sales will increase from $14.7 million in 2010 to $95.5 million in 2017.
